Pretty mellow week in the world of MTGStocks. I wanted to crank out a follow up to my first A Study in the Game of Magic article but my uncle from Texas came up to do some spring salmon fishing so I didn’t get much done this week.
The themes for Commander 2019 were announced as well as some artwork for the new set Throne of Eldraine. With that, let’s get into this week’s MTGStocks analysis!
‘Tis a silly week in the wild wild world of Magic. Recently, whenever a Core Set comes out a strange anomaly occurs. Bizarre price spikes associated with cards only found in the Welcome Decks (those mono-color decks that are designed to introduce new players to the game and that are given out at LGSs for free…).

It’s about time I start doing these spec articles as soon as I can because I will come across a trending card and think to myself, “I bet this card increases in price in the future.” and sure enough days later I see it scrolling across the daily stocks headline after it’s too late (sadly, that card was Dreadhorde Arcanist recently).
Yixlid Jailer from Future Sight up 718% now 4.99$ from 0.61$ (Up this week as a direct result of Hogaak decks in Modern. It’s seeing sideboard play in The Rock (BG Midrange decks), GW Devoted Druid combo decks, and the list goes on.
‘Ello ladles and jellyspoons! Time for me to wrap up M20 spoilers with my Top 5 picks from Week 2. Again, these are just my personal picks i.e. they might not necessarily be the “best cards” from the set, but they tickle my fancy for one reason or another.
